Stem-separation

  • SoundCloud and Moises link up: pull a track out, split it, master it, publish it back

SoundCloud artists can now bring their tracks into Moises for stem separation, mixing, mastering, real-time collaboration and help from its "Moi" assistant, then publish the result straight back to SoundCloud. The loop is convenient, but the announcement leaves eligibility, pricing and the labelling of AI-generated parts undefined.

  • How AI stem separation works, and a stem-splitting workflow that survives the artefacts

A stem splitter doesn't recover the original multitrack. It estimates each part from the finished mix, and its mistakes come out as bleed and artefacts. This guide covers how the models got from Spleeter to Demucs to today's band-split transformers, why the errors happen, and a workflow that plans for them, keeps unreleased audio on your own machine and clears the rights before you release anything.

  • Best AI stem splitters in 2026: a desk review of AudioShake, Demucs, iZotope RX, LALAL.AI and Moises

We compared five stem splitters on what their makers publish about price, limits, formats, where your audio is processed and what happens to it afterwards. Nothing is scored until we've tested them. On paper, the biggest differences aren't stem counts. They're how much each "we don't train on your files" promise actually covers, and whether you can see the price before you sign up.

  • Stem separation doesn't make samples free: sample clearance explained

Pulling a drum break or an acapella out of a finished record with a stem splitter doesn't turn it into a new sound. It is still a copy of someone else's recording and song, so in most cases it needs two licences, one for the master and one for the composition.
