This policy explains how We are the music makers ("we", "us", "WATMM") handles personal data when you use wearethemusicmakers.co (the "Site"), including the news side and the tools directory.

What we collect

Newsletter email address, if you subscribe. Subscriptions are handled by beehiiv.
Contact messages. Your name, email address and message if you write to us or use a contact form.
Listing and correction submissions. The details you send about a tool or a correction, and your contact details.
Usage and device data. Pages viewed, referrer, approximate location from IP address, browser and device type, collected by our host and by analytics. Our analytics provider is Google Analytics 4, which loads only if you accept the analytics note shown on your first visit.
Cookies and similar technologies, described below.

Why we use it

To send the newsletter you asked for and to reply to you.
To review and publish listings and corrections.
To understand which pages are useful, keep the Site secure and fix errors.
To meet legal obligations.

Where the law requires a legal basis (for example under the GDPR), we rely on your consent for the newsletter, on our legitimate interest in running and securing the Site for analytics and security, and on contract or legal obligation where they apply.

Who processes it

We use service providers to run the Site: Vercel (hosting), Supabase (database), beehiiv (newsletter) and Google Analytics (analytics, only with your consent). They process data only on our behalf and under their own privacy terms. We do not sell personal data, and we do not run advertising trackers.

How long we keep it

Newsletter details are kept until you unsubscribe. Contact messages and submissions are kept for as long as needed to deal with them, normally no more than 24 months. Server and analytics logs are kept for a limited period set by the provider.

Cookies

We use only the cookies needed to run the Site and, if you accept, Google Analytics cookies (such as _ga) to count visits. Say "No" to the analytics note and none are set; to change your mind, clear this site's data in your browser. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings; the Site will still work.

International transfers

Our providers may process data outside your country. Where required, we rely on recognised safeguards such as standard contractual clauses.

Your rights

Depending on where you live (including under the GDPR, the UK GDPR, the CCPA/CPRA and India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act), you may have the right to access your data, correct it, have it deleted, restrict or object to its use, withdraw consent, receive a copy, and complain to your data-protection authority. We do not sell or share personal data for advertising. To use a right, email hi@wearethemusicmakers.co. You can unsubscribe from the newsletter at any time with the link in every issue.

Children

The Site is not directed to children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect their personal data. If you think a child has given us data, email us and we will delete it.

Security

We use reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect personal data, but no system is completely secure.

Changes

We may update this policy. The date at the top shows when it last changed.
