Recipe: claim your artist profile on Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube, Amazon, Deezer and JioSaavn
Six artist profiles, one afternoon of forms. Each step lists what the platform asks for, how long it takes and what it costs, in the order that saves the most waiting.
Key facts
- Spotify reviews profile claims by hand and says approval can take a few days.
- Apple Music for Artists needs your content live on Apple Music for at least five business days before you claim.
- A YouTube Official Artist Channel is requested by your distributor or label, not by you.
What you get: control of your photo, bio and stats on the six services most listeners in India and abroad will find you on.
What it costs: none of the six pages we read mentions a fee for claiming a profile. Your time: about two hours of forms, then a few days to a few weeks of waiting.
Before you start: you need at least one release already live through a distributor. Every platform below checks your claim against a real release, so this recipe starts the day your first single goes out, not before.
The steps
Collect your proof (20 minutes, free). Put in one note: your distributor login, the UPC of your live release, the store links for that release, your website and your social profile links. Spotify, Apple, Amazon, Deezer and JioSaavn all ask for some mix of these (Spotify, Apple, Amazon, EmuBands on Deezer).
Spotify for Artists (15 minutes, free; review takes days). Submit a request at Spotify for Artists and add a link to your website or socials so Spotify can verify you. Requests are reviewed by hand and Spotify says "approval can take a few days". If your distributor is a Spotify preferred provider, access is instant. Only one request can be open per profile, and if someone already claimed it, that team's admin has to invite you (Spotify). Before your first release you can also ask your distributor for your artist URI and send it to Spotify support with the release's UPC. Once you are in, our guide to pitching to Spotify's editors is the next step.
Amazon Music for Artists (10 minutes, free). Search for your artist, tap Claim and fill in the form. If you distribute through CD Baby, DistroKid, TuneCore or TuneCore Japan, signing in with that distributor login gives instant access. You need an Amazon retail account to finish (Amazon Music for Artists).
Deezer for Creators (15 minutes, free; review 1 to 3 business days). Sign up at creators.deezer.com, choose your role, enter the UPC of a release where you are the main artist, add social links and submit. EmuBands says Deezer typically reviews requests in 1 to 3 business days, though that can vary (EmuBands). More on what the dashboard gives you in our Amazon Music and Deezer guide.
JioSaavn via ArtistOne (15 minutes, free). Once your music is approved and distributed, go to artists.jiosaavn.com, choose Get Access, sign up, search for your profile and submit the verification request (RouteNote). We could not find an official JioSaavn page with the criteria, so treat this as the distributor-reported route.
Apple Music for Artists (15 minutes, free; wait five business days first). Your content must be live on Apple Music for at least five business days, and you must be the primary artist on an album: featured artists cannot claim. Sign in with an Apple Account, choose Request Artist Access, paste your artist page link or search, pick an album, choose your role and fill in the form. Apple gives no review time; the claim shows as Pending, and an unanswered request expires after 30 days (Apple). Our Apple Music for Artists guide covers what to do after.
YouTube Official Artist Channel (10 minutes to ask, free; wait unstated). You cannot apply yourself. YouTube says you need one channel for your music, at least one official release delivered by a distributor or label, a channel that follows YouTube policies, and a link to a partner such as a distributor listed in its directory. It recommends at least one public video. Your distributor or label submits the request (YouTube Help). The details are in our Official Artist Channel guide.
What we think
The order matters more than the forms. Do the instant ones (Amazon through a supported distributor, Spotify through a preferred provider) on release day, then fire off Deezer and JioSaavn, and set a reminder for Apple a week later, because its five-business-day rule is the one people miss. YouTube is the slowest because it runs through someone else's queue, so ask your distributor in the same email you send about the release.
The bigger point: a distributor that offers instant claims and handles the YouTube request is saving you more than a fee comparison shows. That is our reading of these pages, not a ranking. And with no single page that covers JioSaavn's rules, Indian artists are still relying on distributors' help articles for the platform that matters most to them at home.
