A first home studio for INR 25,000 (about USD 260): interface, mic, headphones and a cable

The brief: one person, one voice or instrument at a time, a laptop already on the desk, and INR 25,000 (roughly USD 260) to spend on everything else. We priced every item at one Indian retailer, Bajaao, on 26 Oct 2026, so you can buy the lot in one order. Prices move; check the live listing before you pay. The rig

Dynamic swap: replace the GXL1200 with an AKG Perception P3S at INR 6,079 (about $64) and the total falls to INR 20,098.02 (about $211).

Why these

Interface: Arturia MiniFuse 1. Bajaao's listing gives it one combo mic/instrument/line XLR input with 48V phantom power, two balanced 1/4-inch TRS line outputs, a headphone output and a direct-monitor switch. The same listing says it ships with Ableton Live Lite, Analog Lab Intro and a set of Arturia effects, so the software side of a first studio costs nothing extra.

Mic: CAD GXL1200 (condenser) or AKG P3S (dynamic). The GXL1200 is a cardioid condenser; Bajaao lists 30 Hz to 20 kHz response, 17 dBA self-noise, and says it needs 48V phantom power, which the MiniFuse supplies. The P3S is a dynamic mic from AKG's Perception Live series that Bajaao describes as built for backing vocals and instruments, with a rugged metal body.

Headphones: AKG K92. Closed-back, so the mic does not pick up the click track bleeding out of your ears, with 40 mm drivers and a low-impedance design that Bajaao says suits a wide range of devices. At under INR 3,500 they are the cheapest part of the rig, and the one most worth upgrading later.

Cable: Bajaao's own balanced XLR, INR 499, with a choice of lengths on the listing.

What we think

Buy the dynamic build first. A condenser hears the whole room, and a first home studio is almost always an untreated bedroom with a fan, traffic and hard walls. A dynamic mic held close forgives all of that, and it saves INR 2,707 that can go on a mic stand and a pop filter, which nobody budgets for and everybody needs. Add the condenser later, once you have put up some soft furnishings and know what you are recording.

The other lesson from pricing this: at INR 25,000, the interface is 44% to 50% of the bill. That is where the money should go, because it is the part you keep longest. Mics and headphones get swapped; a clean preamp with phantom power does not need to be.

What is not here

No monitors (speakers), no mic stand, no pop filter, no acoustic treatment. With the dynamic build you have about INR 4,900 left under the INR 25,000 line for the stand and filter.
